I do sometimes but will be doing it more since that tute about how to "correctly" baste my quilt that I saw on this board the other day! If you don't baste it well enough you get puckers. When I use the hoop, I make it so loose it's almost like not using a hoop. Years ago my quilt instructor taught us not to make the fabric so tight in the hoop otherwise you can't get the small stitches! She also taught us how to baste the quilt but somehow I had gotten away from it so the tute was a welcome reminder for me! Now I don't have to hoop!
