Yes you can. You can buy any transfers (Aunt Martha) and transfer them onto white or natural muslin - I always cut them for a finished 12" block. I made many quilts like that. Not for counted cross stitch though (You need Aida cloth for that). My sister and I started quilting using Aunt Martha and she then went into starting at point A and just going where the needle led her. Then she embellished the blocks with buttons, ribbon, rick-rack, lace, beads. She does gorgeous work, Now she is doing a crazy quilt with my snippets that I give her and she embellishes them. I always use masking tape to do the edges of the squares to keep them from raveling and it just keeps it neater to work with. Happy embroidery/quilting. Edie
