I just recently was given an Elna serger by a couple as a donation for my class. It's probably 8 or so years old, never been used, never even plugged it in.

The wife quilts and the husband went to a sewing store to get her a gift and was sucked in by the salesman's pitch "every sewer has to have one of these", so he bought it. His wife was very appreciative but, aside from at least taking it out of the box, never touched it.

I oiled it up, plugged it in, and it works beautifully but I never use it for quilting, just sewing.

By the way, they were both 77 when he bought the serger, how sweet is that!
