About the strip quilt....what are the strips sewn to? If just lightweight fabric (muslin, for example), then you would treat it like any other quilt block and either sew them to each other (right sides together) or do sashing, which is a thin strip (2" or less) of fabric sewn between the blocks (sort of like framing).
