If that child called it her "silky", it's because the blanket binding was soft and floppy and silky. That is how it should be on this quilt you are making for her. I hope it can be the same color "binding" as the old one!! There are no rules in quilting...or at least there shouldn't be!! Post a photo when finished, please.
