CarrieAnn, you have a Model 15 clone. It's a great machine, a real workhorse, very reliable. I use mine to piece quilts. It's a real sweetie. You should be able to straight-line quilt on it with no trouble, and I think it will drop feed dogs so you can free-motion quilt.

I have not tried attachments with mine (such as those used for the Singer Model 15). They might work. Any short shank feet should work.

There is a Yahoo group called something like "vintagejapansewingmachines" and they will have more info for you.

For the person who asked how to clean the 401, first try a damp (not wet) soft cloth with water. From the pics, that should do the trick, and if not, let us know.
