I sew the strips together FIRST, cut the HST out of that, then press open. I sometimes have problems with the beginning and ending of the seams going away from the 1/4" seam allowance and this method helps me.

I've checked it out but don't like working on the bias any more than necessary. It doesn't work for me although I know it works well for others.
