My husband volunteers at a local elementary school; he's been in the same 2nd grade classroom with the same teacher for 6 years now. The teacher is retiring this week, and I made a Pear Table Runner for her today as a retirement gift from us. She grew up in a rural part of Oregon and her Dad had acres of Pear Trees. So I adapted this wonderful wall hanging from McCall's Quilting into a Table Runner.

It was the first time I had used thread to paint texture on an applique (instead of bonding)-- and it was so easy! The pears stems and leaves all have texture too. I will use this technique a lot in the future!
