I have never sent out a quilt to be quilt but I have a lady I take them to. I select the pattern to be use from a selection of what she has to offer. We too discuss the options and cost of particular one( More difficult vs easy). She will make her recomendation as she has the experience of knowing what looks good and what works. I myself would be scared to death to do another persons quilt. I would be so afraid the person would not like it and then what do you do. They have put so much work into their quilt and if they are not happy with the finished product it can change so much. Really I am not trying to discourage you just offering my opinion.
