I'm one of those who generally say "Hi" when someone arrives in the chatroom. To my way of thinking, it would be like someone sitting next to you and ignoring them if I didn't.
The topics are all over the place, but if you have a question or comment, just type it, and someone is generally there to help, or point you in the right direction. And sometimes, it's just good to take a break with kindred spirits.
