Absolutely! Your bag will be too "floppy" if you don't. I have been using a heavier fabric too, which also helps keep it's shape. I was afraid to make this bag because I am not a very good sewer, but surprisingly enough, it was pretty easy and I love how mine turned out. (I have made 3)
