Oh so sorry to hear your gift was not appreciated.
My oldest daughter is like that. She was engaged on the top of the effiel tower, so I searched for effiel tower fabric and just the right contrast and made her a "Gracie" bag and wallet and tissue holder to go in it as part of her Christmas gift. She opened it and said, "Oh, I guess I can store junk in this".
I never saw it again. Then for her wedding I made her a "Mocha Merengie" wall hanging because the pattern was modern and her taste. Recently she was showing me thru her new house and there it was thrown in the "junk room" closet.
However the rag quilt and other things her new MIL has made are displayed.
Guess I know where I stand. I am not even going to try anymore.
I think your gift was not only patriotic but thoughtful and made with love. I guess you try to shake off the hurt. I know it's very hard to do.
