Was he in the military? If so, maybe it brought back some bad memories that he has since tried to forget. Does he have anything else patriotic in his house? Or is he just like that usually and hard to please. Well, I think it is beautiful and if I were you, I would go back and get it and use it myself, or give it to someone else who would appreciate it. People can be so hurtful sometimes but I wouldn't let that steal my joy. You gave it for the right reasons and it is his loss if he doesn't care for it. You can send it to me!
