You have a lot of posts here but I thought I would share how I work on log cabin blocks. First I make sure my middle square is accurately cut. (Amazing how often it is off just a little) 2nd I lay out my strips in the order that I am going to sew them. (I actually use a small folding wooden sweater dryer like Mom used to use and hang my strips on this in sewing order) 3rd I make the first block, pressing after each seam and squaring up after each round.

If it is okay I lay that block in front of my sewing machine where I can see it and then go to the next block.

I don't chain sew log cabins because I always get them going wonky when I don't want wonky.

Don't know if this will help but it does work for me.
