Many mariner's compass are assembled this way. I hope I am not too late, this is too beautiful to throw away. Put it to the side for a few months and try doing it via applique. With applique you can draft you the arc piece to be whatever size you need it to be.
Thank you so much. The method you suggest probably will work, but I'm really so tired of the quilt. I just want to move on. I'll keep the pattern and maybe try it again some day using the method you suggest. That would probably work. I'm going to make a note on the pattern to try it that way. I'll save my blocks to experiment too. I just want to use the fabric I have left in a different project.
