I posted pics of this in progress, but it's done now!!! I think about a year ago I basted and pinned it for hand quilting and just could not bring myself to do it. So a few weeks ago I tore out all the basting- EEK! that was hard to do- and entrusted it to a local LAQ. She did a great job!! I would not have thought of what she did and it's wonderful- so much better than I would have done!
She used a different stitch all around each "log" in each block. Some wavy lines, some spirally things, some vines, just super cute designs. And then she stitched veins in the leaves and echo quilted around the cherries. The large white border she did feathers, and the series of green borders have a really pretty leaf pattern. I will add more pics to try to show those.
Also, I tried really hard with binding my corners this time so I will include pics. If anyone knows anything about judging quilts- do my points need to be pointier? I read somewhere that I should be stitching down that little angle, but I think it looks better this way. I don't intend to enter this one in any juried shows, but someday in the future... maybe one of my next ones.
This quilt has been over 6 years in the making and I am ECSTATIC to have put the final stitch in the binding about half an hour ago. (And see who gets to see it first- yep! All my QB buddies!!)
It's called Cherry Surprise because the back is a surprise- the back is a GIANT block from the front. I threw a Kleenex box in there to show scale. It was the handiest object. That block is about 4 ft. square so it's a BIG surprise when you turn the quilt over.
So yay me!!! I am finally FINALLY done!!! Ahhhhh... oh, wait, I have to make a label...
