Judy, there has been lots and lots of discussion about the Star Spin pattern over the years here on the board. If you search "Star Spin Pattern" you'll find several long threads and many more short ones about it.
The original pattern is by Barbara Schaffeld. Her book is pages of tips and steps on how to construct the quilt. The book is called Hand Quilt Without a Frame and is now out of print. You can now find the pattern at
