I only know a little about walking feet...so will share what little i know. A walking foot is only used for straight sewing (correct me anyone if i am wrong) and on my machine (bernina) you have a hook that must be hooked over or it wont work properly. These are things that i was told when i bought mine. Someone else might be able to explain better once they know what brand machine and walking foot you have. Happy sewing! You could also go to your local sewing machine shop and take the machine and foot with you and i am sure they will be glad to help as sometimes if you are a visual learner like me it is easier to see someone else doing it.
