In doing my genealogy I found a paternal link back to the 1660s in Quebec, where my ancestor married one of the "Kings Daughters" (filles du roi) and settled and farmed on Ilse de Orleans Quebec. There's a statue honoring Francois and Marguerite (Foy) Dumas, which I plan on visiting later this summer. My GGG grandmother in this branch was a direct descendant of Jacque Cartier, the French explorer (1500s), who discovered Quebec. Be forewarned, genealogy can be almost as addictive as quilt making!
