I have made wallhangings with Pellon 987 (very light weight fusible batting) and then a backing. A little stitching in the ditch and you are done.

If you cut the backing large enough, you can turn it over to the right side and machine blanket stitch it down. This is much faster that a traditional binding, and it looks very good. ;)
