I have a friend who is a master quilter. She makes the most beautiful art quilts you could imagine. She told me that whenever there is an accident with a quilt, if you treat it as if it were an invitation to explore possibilities, it will turn out better than it ever possibly could without the accident. For instance, her cat clawed a beautiful landscape that was all finished except the binding. She didn't catastrophize. She didn't cry. She just said, "what can I do with this?" She wound up appliqueing something over it, and it looked like she planned the whole quilt around it. She thinks the Master Quilter wanted her to expand her horizons.
