When we were on vacation this week in Florida we went to some antique stores in the area. I'm always on the lookout for vintage quilts and looking for a bargain. I found this one for $45. I was really struck by how unusual it was in several respects:

1. The circular block pattern. I've seen strips sewn together like this for squares, but not for circles. I thought it was very interesting.

2. The black fabric used in the background. I don't think I've ever seen a vintage quilt that used a solid black like this for the background, but it seems like the perfect choice for making those circles really pop. As you can see also, the maker used several different kinds of black fabric.

3. The backing has an orange stripe fabric. Again, an unusual choice, but it seems to work really well with the rest of the quilt.
