Have you considered getting two short filing cabinets and a hollow core door (across them) to make a new table? Doors are usually around 6 feet and the cabinets would give you more storage. Just a thought.
My daughter did that and she got the (gray) filing cabinets at a thrift shop for $4 each. They worked just fine, the drawers slid out perfectly. They were dusty and marked on, but she cleaned them with Greased Lightening and they are now spotless. The drawers make a nice place to keep all her patterns and odds and ends. I love the whole idea! 8-)
