I use an emery nail file. Have you tried the new surgical blade seam ripper? They are fantastic and not expensive. I bought one with nice handle and blade cover for $3 at a LQS. I saw them in Paducah and none were over $4 with nice handles So don't overpay. It's the same as the Gingher seam ripper only not with the weighted and large metal handle.
