The deer, well, they are hard to corrall unless you put up a deer fence ( at least 8 feet tall, as they can't jump that ).. the raccoons, they dont come round much now that our neighbor has a dog.. As for canning all the produce, I do so much better doing it alone - my kitchen is large, yes, but I am one to like the soilitude so I can think, and not get forgetful when chatting..
I have a twin sister who lived in Bend, Oregon for over 20 years. She , and her hubby worked for the Bulletin until last year when they retired, and moved to Minnesota.. Love Bend, especially going to Goodies, and Drake park I think it was called.
