forgot to say....change paper after each blot so you don't end up putting more glue down in other places....

Agree with the ironing technique to take up applique.

link suggests goo gone or similar to take care of left-over adhesive...before trying goo gone, use an old paper bag or other sturdy paper to "blot" the glue - lay paper over glue spot, warm with iron and pull paper up while warm...each time you do this you should take off a little more of the glue, requiring less of the goo gone.
