Funny thing about colors - what looks "dark" against a "light" can look "light" against a "dark"
The suggestion to get black and white pictures/scans/copies is a helpful one.
You asked about dividing lines between groups - I don't think there is that is one that is nice and definitive - it all depends on what you are working with.
