While I have only started a crumb quilt, I believe the correct way to do it is start with two reasonable rectangles and then just add your little pieces of fabric to it in any fashion one wants. However, the one requirement is the seam must be a straight line or the quilt block will not lie flat. Then someone told me I should use a piece of backing to all of these crumb blocks so I tried that for a couple blocks. I prefer the first way and then when I get it big enough, I cut it down to 5-1/2 inches. From there I plan to use a constant fabric and set everything on point. But, like I say, I have not finished anything--just making blocks from scraps of my good fabrics.

Hope someone will add to this and tell me if I am doing it correctly.
