Quilt Pro was sold to Jenny Haskins, so there will never be a Quilt Pro version higher than 5. Any updates to the software will be made in the Jenny Haskins "Perfect Quilt Expressions" software.
http://www.softexpressions.com used to have a page that explained the entire transition, but this was last year sometime and the page is not there anymore.
The softexpressions website still sells Quilt Pro 5 for Mac and related software, along with Perfect Quilt software. Maybe the company retained rights to Quilt Pro 5 for Mac and it is still in production; I don't know. I think Quilt Pro 5 for Windows stopped production when it was sold to Jenny Haskins.
Here is the softexpressions website for Quilt Pro 5 products for Mac:

I have heard that Quilt Pro is very intuitive and easy to learn. In your situation, I wouldn't hesitate to buy it for a Mac.
