My story is worse. I had a brand new Bernina walking foot and was using it for the first time on a pin-basted quilt. I missed a pin and missed seeing that the back of the walking foot had got caught on the pin. It broke a spring inside the foot. Took it back to the Bernina dealer and all they did was offer to sell me a new one at full price. (I bought another one elsewhere.) My dh could probably have fixed the old foot if I could have gotten a replacement spring for it. Suppose there isn't much demand for them, though.
