The FIRST thing you should do is try a variety of longarms to see which ones you like. Some of the machines mentioned prev here are mid-arms, not longarms. If you know some longarmers, ask to take a test run. Try as many as you can at quilt shows, they are MORE than happy to let you play !
The LAST thing you want to do is buy only based on price or hearsay - or a brand /model you've never touched before ... It's a BIG investment no matter what you spend - you need to be sure you're getting what you want in a machine :)
