Hasn't been a problem for me, though I haven't free motioned a "big" quilt with the FMQ foot yet. I have used the walking foot to do gentle waves on a big quilt and loved it. No puckers, and it seemed to help pull the quilt through the machine for me.
I have problems with my shoulders, so most of my big quilts these days are quilted in sections and then assembled.
