I used to be a purist, only cotton fabric, thread, batt etc. BUT--have gotten into art type quilts and now use everything from upholstery fabric to sheers to satins etc.
Thread painting on projects is now important too and find the Marathon threads work well for me. They have a bit of sheen, so work well for art projects.
