What's good for one, isn't necessarily good for another. I would hit the stores and buy one or all for the first coupla issues. Then decide which works for you. I, for one, don't like the ones that have mostly ads, or is into "creative" quilting (mostly longarm stuff). I found Fons and Porter the best one for me as a beginner.
