Start collecting those novelty fabrics!!! I use a 6 1/2 square ruler to fussy cut the best part of the novelty fabrics and then frame them with 6 1/2 inch strips cut 2 1/2 inches wide. Use a 2 1/2 square for the cornerstones. I like to use a TOT fabric with several pleasing colors for those 2 1/2 strips and then a nice solid black for the cornersones. Add a 2 1/2 solid black border and then a nice 4-5 inch outer border and you will be good to go!! The finished quilt size can be what ever you like....I usually use 42 different novelities and that, plus all the sashings makes up to be a very nice size snuggle quilt.
For those sashing strips, I have a family of colors/patterns that I buy at WalMart. Some have dots or swirls but they all go together so well...pinks, purples, blues, yellows, greens, oranges, browns...they give the eyes a place to rest with all those busy novelities!! Don't sweat it...pinks look great next to oranges!!!!!
