In the sewing notions department, they also have white or blue pencils for marking on fabric, also chalk that one can sharpen. I use the cheapest thing, a sliver of soap. It marks well, washes out always, and you can sharpen it with a paring knife by scraping the edges, best done when it is softened slightly. I wash my hands with it one more time to get it moist enough to sharpen and that also helps keep it from breaking due to. dryness.
