Yeah, it's like they wove in a little steel with the cotton! Maybe with multiple washings it'll soften up. I washed it once and it got a smidge better. I think using this type quality on quilts that you're attempting a new technique is a great idea. If you're not happy with the outcome, at least the fabric won't have set you back a small fortune.
