On these computer tables do you think the shelf is strong enough for a sewing machine?
About 20 years ago I used to sew on a card table. After some time, my sewing machine had problems so I took it in to be looked at. The repairman asked, "What type of table or surface do you sew on?" I told him a card table. He asked me to never do that again as a handful of screws and other parts had been vibrated loose and were sitting on the bottom of the machine case.
Fast forward to now and this Safco table. I was lucky enough to get one at a thrift store for only $15.00. My Bernina 1090 fits nicely on it, but if I go too fast it does vibrate a tiny bit. Knowing that Harriet Hargrave uses Bernina's and suggested this table, I may email her and ask if she experiences any vibration and/or how to combat that. It does help to have a piece of that rubbery shelf liner under your sewing machine.
Otherwise, I absolutely LOVE being able to use my machine flatbed style and still be able to access the free arm if need be. It's SO nice that the drop down shelf is adjustable, I think at 5 different levels. Perfect for me!
I believe the shelf is supported well enough by adequate hardware or I wouldn't dare put my Bernina on it.
