I was a Navy Corpsman - stationed at NAS Whiting Field outside of Pensacola, married a flight engineer on P-3's, my brother retired as a Senior Master Chief. All three of us would be proud to have this quilt. Wonderful job.

By challenge do you mean they asked more than you to do this and they might not choose yours - I think they should have just commissioined (and paid) you to do it. Don't see how they could turn you down. Must have been a chore to find all the fabric to fit the Naval aviation theme.
