The last time I went to the Statue of Liberty (18 years ago) Hubby, DS and I got to ride to the top in the service elevator before the statue opened, we took our pictures and walked down. We stopped to wave once we were at the base, the line was so long and the statue had not even opened yet, but we were soon down and on our way through Manhattan. The moral to this story is: It pays to have a relative that works there!
