Leota, I am not quite sure what you mean exactly... while quilting? I use a hoop on a stand and the weight of the quilt hangs on the hoop, not on my shoulders.

I have an 18" round hoop (not on a stand) and the weight of the quilt that is not in the hoop pulls on the whole thing which makes it difficult for me to quilt. I have to set up the card table to rest the un-hooped portion of the quilt on. This dominates the livingroom or where ever I'm working. I feel I'm constantly trying to quilt during a tug of war. I have the pattern to build me a quilting frame but I don't have the space right now to set it up even if I had it built.
