Thje first thing I do is walk the store to see what they have. Many stores follow a theme. Tone on tones are always good to have around--a good yard. Also, look for their marked-down section. I have had great luck in those sections to add to my stash as it is less expensive and many times they have end of bolt fabrics they just want to move out and they are still popular patterns.
