I learned from a book by Valori Wells titled: "Radiant New York Beauties". Once you ' get the hang of it', it'll be easy. I use strips of fabric cut 5/8" wider than the widest area to be pieced. Then you'll be sure to have it wide enough but not waste fabric too. I think paper piecing is the only way to go if you're making a block with sharp points in it. Try using tracing paper, it tears off easier than regular printer paper. It's also a great way to use up small bits of fabric. I save strips that are only 1" wide and I've used them in a pattern.
