Gwyn, maybe the quilting should be something as simple as going straight down the row (in the ditch) at the 3 inch or 6 inch intervals? I wouldn't even try for anything fancy on something that complicated. The blocks are what is going to carry this quilt not fancy quilting. Tied quilts hold up fairly well (done many) but she might wash something like this often if it becomes a dorm room everything quilt.
