If you are appliqueing the handle to the basket....
After prepping the strip, use your iron to help start the curve in the handle.
Shape the handle into a curve and steam it a bit. Then press. Pre-shaping the curve helps it lay flatter to sew it down. (You can use a "template" to shape it if you wish, but any curve added to the bias strip will help. For a template, just use a paper with the handle copied onto it. If you have a lot of curves that are similar, trace the curve onto muslin that you can pin to your ironing board.)
