Hey, Jan! That's what I use to piece...the Brother 3500. I hate to say it, but the easiest thing for me to do was straight line on that. I ended up getting a frame, and I pretty happy with that.
If you're going to continue FMQ on your brother, I'd say work in small spaces instead of trying to travel a whole lot. That way, you aren't fidgeting with the extra as much.
