YES!!! It's a white featherweight, probably made in Scotland. I have a white one, and that's the kind of case they came in. They are a little bit different from the black featherweights, but still are a featherweight.
Can he still get it? It is worth more than $50.
Edit: For future reference, one key feature of a featherweight model 221 is the fold-up bed on the left side of the machine. No other Singer has that feature.
Note: The featherweight model 222 has a removable bed (slides off to the left, creating a free-arm). These are much more rare than the 221 and worth even more.
