I am fairly new to the group but have thoroughly enjoyed it thus far. I am 68 years old and have only been quilting a short time. I have a DH who is a remarkable man. He has made me two items that I use all the time when quilting. I thought I would share pictures of them with you. The first item is my miniature ironing board. This measures about 15" long by 5" wide. It sits right beside my sewing machine and saves many trips to the large ironing board when pressing seams open, etc. In has several layers of cotton batting on it, ticking cover, a removable, washable flannel cover to iron on and a removable protective cover for storing. It has a handle on it for easy carrying and a holding rack for my Conair miniature steam iron. Several of my friends have had him make one for them to take to quilting classes as it is so handy.
The second item if called a third hand. It attaches to my sewing table and is used to hold items that I don't have enough hands for. I had taken a quilting class and was given the wrong instructions. When I started putting the blocks together, I realized it would not work out and I would have to rip out every one. After doing a few of the blocks, I said to my DH, "you are going to have to hold one end of these, I can't do it by myself". He told me I needed a third hand and this is what he came up with. He has had to make these for quilting friends also. Just thought I would share these with you all and get your opinion. Thanks for letting me be a part of this great group.
