Nope, I have some friends who have each had several made with Bounty, they have all washed them several times, on purpose to test it out, and they are as smooth as can be, it may depend on the quilting, I'm not sure, but their's are all fine. It has to be Bounty though, they have not tested the less popular brands so they may not hold up...so far so good.

My squares on the burgandy and gold quilt are 11X11, as a matter of fact, I used Bounty paper towel sheets as my foundation, works beautifully, and you don't take them out.
