I would make the quilt so it could tolerate this care:
1) Wash in warm or cool water, on a gentle cycle. Use a non-bleach detergent.
2) Dry in dryer on low to medium heat until barely dry. Or hang on line to dry.
3) Use until worn out.

Great thought, if they are loved they won't even part from them when they are worn out. A great nephew entrusted his to his mother when he went to the military,
